【西洋人文肖像藝術系列 #4-2】The Humanistic Spirits in Portraiture #4-2. 約翰‧辛格‧薩金特(John Singer Sargent)


除了人物居中式傳統構圖樣式外，19世紀偉大肖像藝術家─約翰‧辛格‧薩金特(John Singer Sargent, 1856-1925)更在寫實基礎上進行創新，深刻地創作出既古典又富現代感的肖像作品。

畫家在技法層面承襲范戴克(Anthony van Dyck, 1599-1641)、維拉茲奎茲(Diego Velázquez, 1599-1660)等傳統大師精湛技藝，觀念面則同時吸收外來日本藝術及同時代印象派部分概念，開創出劃時代的嶄新視覺；如《艾德華‧達里‧波伊特的女兒(The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit, 1882)》(現藏美國波士頓美術館(Museum of Fine Arts, Boston))、《康乃馨‧百合花‧玫瑰(Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose, 1885-6)》(現藏英國倫敦泰特美術館(Tate))、與《史蒂文森夫婦(Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife, 1885)》(私人收藏)等，薩金特的肖像作品有如文學家般精彩地融合人物個性、內在心理、背景脈絡，勾勒出人物性格及其所屬世界與生命場景。
